A signature Meydan investment is Taking Shape, a global leader in plus-size clothing, operating for over 30 years with stores in Australia and New Zealand. Opening its first store in Melbourne in 1985, Taking Shape is available through 150 stores internationally and online.
As with other interests, Meydan Group carefully selected the management team, which is lead by Moshe Meydan. Under Alla Buinowicz stewardship, Taking Shape has grown in size and value, with continued growth anticipated as the business continues to expand into new geographies.
With a strong pedigree in clothing and fabric manufacture, Meydan Group integrated its business vertically with the introduction of a frontline B2C business through the acquisition of Taking Shape. The opportunity arose out of a blue sky discussion between Alla Buinowicz, the company’s long standing General Manager and the Meydan Group directors, Moshe and Yaniv Meydan.
Starting in 1985 as a small wholesale brand catering for the contemporary plus sized customer who had few options during the booming fashion times during the Eighties, Taking Shape quickly grew in popularity. With a key and growing market niche - stylish and fashionable clothing for the plus size figure - Taking Shape negotiated wholesaling product to Myer and established standalone stores. It was through this profile with a broader market that the brand gained attention and loyalty from its now 240,000 customers.
Meydan Group attribute the business success to the application of its core investment principles: the right resources, industry experience, astute and timely decisions. This is evident in the strong service philosophy created in Taking Shape around offering customers an experience; not just clothing. This vision for the business has endured from the earliest days of planning.
